She blinked and looked up at Nettie as if in a daze. Then she smiled warmly at her, her voice light and high like she was just waking up from a long nap. "Oh hey Net. What's up, huh?..." She reached up and tapped Nettie's nose with the hand that wasn't bleeding and laughed airily. "You're cute..."

Tawni blinked and turned away from Nettie, wondering that herself. She could feel herself start to crack up...an not in the laughing way. "This is my fault", she whispered. "All my fault. Why the fuck did I throw that thing at him when he was sitting up in a tree?"

"He'll be okay... I did that to him a LOT of times when we lived in NY, and he always pulled through... plus, he's such a blockhead that I bet he has no major injuries,"she tried to joke, failing epically.

She looked over at Nettie and tried to smile but all that really happened was her face fell even more. Tawni eventually rested her elbows on her knees and closed her eyes, linking her fingers together as she tried to think. "What's wrong with me?" she whispered.
