Tawni searched his face for a moment, feeling obliged to do what he asked. She thought back to that time, after they'd come in from the rain...
When her lightbulb flared, she went right back to being skeptical. "Then why in the hell would..."
The bar.
His insane puking.
As she put pieces together, her face crumpled so she let her head fall in defeat, her shoulders shaking.

He stepped towards her, wanting to comfort her, but hesitated, not sure if she would want him near her. "Everyone makes mistakes," he mumbled. "You should know that.."

That's what he was making her feel--guilty. But not just that, there was truth in what he said as well. "I do...we all do it..." She looked up at him and tried cracking a smile but it came out like a grimace. "I guess you're right..." she mumbled.

He took three long strides and was at the other side of the kitchen, standing in front her. "Smile for me Tawni," he whispered, his eyes watching hers. "One smile will make a hell of a difference."

She laughed quietly and was surprised to feel her face was wet. Tawni beamed at him, even though it was broken and tears were cascading down her face. "What idiot told you that?" She knew she was contradicting herself.

Kyle's eyes widened in surprise as she did this. He had expected her to yell and hit him, but this was a lot easier than he had thought. Relaxing a little, he did the same, wrapping his arms around her middle and pulling her close to him. "I'm sorry Tawni," he whispered in her ear, closing his eyes tight. "More sorry than you'll ever know."

He noticed the tone difference, but didn't waver on the outside. On the inside felt a strange anger build up, an anger towards himself. Not just that, but hurt and pain that she was no longer sure that she loved him.
And it was all his fault.
Once realising this, he couldn't stop his face from crumbling. His hands began to shake uncontroably.

Catching her tone of voice, Tawni clenched her hands into fists, cursing every possible word in her mind. She looked down for a minute, then back up to see Kyle looking crestfallen. She froze. She'd never seen him look like this--ever. Her eyes traveled to his hands, then back up to his face.

He didn't speak, didn't even look at her. Closing his eyes, he brought a shaky hand up to run it down his face; an old habbit of his when he was frusterated. He took a step awake from her and sighed heavily, letting it come out rough and uneven. "Yes?" he finally asked.

Tawni stopped short, standing in her doorway for a second to pull the hoodie on. Once she zipped it up, she answered him truthfully. "I don't know." All she knew was there was an agonizing pain starting to form in her chest and she needed to get out. She ran out.
